Michael Annis
Administrator

Michael has been an educator for fifteen years, six of those as the Adminstrator at Heritage Christian School. He received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Bible from Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina. He later received his Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Trevecca University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Kathy Schallau
School Secretary

Kathy has served God at Heritage Christian School for 12 years. She is currently the school's Secretary and Receptionist and manages accounts receivable.

Raymond Small
Administrative Assistant

Ray has served God at Heritage Christian School in many capacities for 12 years. He is currently an Administrative Assistant and oversees the school's hot lunch program.

Lisa Turnbough
Bookkeeper

Lisa has served God as the Bookkeeper at Heritage Christian School for 4 years. She manages accounts payable, payroll, and general accounting.

Julie Vahle
Part-Time Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Julie has seven years of teaching experience, three of those with HCS. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor's in Elementary Education and Middle School Math. Later, she received her Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from the same university. Julie is endorsed to teach K-6 and 5-9 math. In July of 2011, she began her new role as part-time Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

Brian Neal
Pre-Kindergarten Teacher
Brian has seven years teaching experience, one of those with Heritage.  He graduated from Whitworth University with a Bachelors of Arts in Art Administration and a minor in Art History.  Brian also holds a Masters of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary.  Brian earned his teaching credentials from Chapman University
Joy Bartholomew
Kindergarten Teacher

Joy has fourteen years teaching experience, eight of those as a kindergarten teacher for Heritage Christian School.  She graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.

Jenn Van Otterloo
First Grade Teacher

 

Jenn has five years of teaching experience, all with HCS. She graduated from Dordt College with a bachelor's in Elementary Education and Physical Education. Jenn is endorsed for coaching. She is currently the first grade teacher.

 

Sarah Franje
Second Grade Teacher

Sarah has one year of teaching experience, having spent that year with Heritage teaching 1st grade. She graduated from Dordt College with a bachelor's in Elementary Education, holding endorsments in Reading and Early Childhood Education. She currently teaches 2nd grade.

Nichole Early
Second Grade Teacher

Nichole has twelve years of teaching experience, all with HCS.  She graduated from Luther College with a bachelor's in Elementary Education.  Nichole is endorsed for reading and early childhood education.  She currently teaches second grade.

Sarah Lounsbrough
3rd Grade Teacher

Sarah is beginning her full-time teaching career after serving as a long term substitute at Heritage twice during the 2010-2011 school year. Sarah is a graduate of Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa, earning both an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and a Masters degree in Biblical Studies.

Aimee Law
Third Grade Teacher

Aimee has seven years teaching experience, one of those as the 3rd grade teacher at Heritage Christian School.  She graduated from Gordon College with  Bachelor's degrees in Early Childhood Education and Biblical and Theological Studies.

Rachel Super
Fourth Grade Teacher

Rachel has four years of teaching experience,  two of those with HCS.  She graduated from Dordt College with a bachelor's in Elementary Education.  She is endorsed to teach K-8 art.  Rachel currently teaches fourth grade.

Ben Tweedt
Middle School History and Literature Teacher

Ben has two years of teaching experience, all with HCS.  He graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's in History.  Ben is endorsed to teach World, American, and European History as well as psychology.  He is currently the fifth grade homeroom teacher and the middle school literature and history teacher.

Jesse Foresto
Middle School Science, Bible, and 6th-8th grade Grammar Teacher

Jesse is entering the teaching profession this year. He graduated from Northeastern Illinois University in May 2010 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Biology. Jesse holds endorsements in Biological Science, General Science, Language Arts, and Physical Science. Jesse will also be the homeroom teacher for 6th grade.

 

 

Tammy Veenstra
Middle School Math and 5th grade Grammar Teacher

Tammy has eight years teaching experience, five as the Middle School Math and Computer teacher at Heritage Christian School. She graduated from Dordt College with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Tammy is currently working on her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Dordt College.

Connie Keel
Physical Education Teacher and Athletic Director

Connie has been in education for twenty years, the last seven years as the Physical Education teacher and Athletic Director for Heritage.  She received a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  Connie also holds Health Education and Coaching endorsements.

Lisa Tomash
3rd-8th Grade Art Teacher

Lisa has been teaching for sixteen years, all with HCS. She received a Bachelor's in Art and Graphic Design from the University of Iowa. Lisa currently is the 3rd through 8th grade art teacher.

Stephanie Annis
Pre-K-2nd Grade Art Teacher

Stephanie has been teaching for nine years, four of those with HCS. She received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Union University, in Jackson, Tennessee. She is currently the Pre-K through 2nd grade Art teacher.

Lynn Jansen
Band

Lynn has been in education for twenty four years, the last thirteen with HCS.  She received a bachelor's in music education from Coe College.  Lynn is endorsed for kindergarten through twelfth grade band.  She is currently the middle school band director.

Jacquelyn Zwiefel
Director of Heritage Singers and Music Appreciation Teacher

Jackie recently joined Heritage as the Director of the Heritage Singers and the Pre-k through 4th grade Music Appreciation teacher. She has two years classroom teaching experience and additional experience as a formal choral director. She holds a Bachelor of Music/Choral degree with a major General Music K-12 from the University of Norther Iowa and her Masters of Arts in Choral Conducting and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa.
