The Mission Statement of Heritage Christian School affirms education is to be Christ-centered and academically challenging while guiding children in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.  Students are held accountable to do their best at all times and in all things.  They are taught facts revealed in Science and History and then taught to interpret them through what God’s Word says about the creation and sustenance of all things and the nature of man.  They are taught the value of excellence in the language arts due to the responsibility of effective communication, both written and oral.  They are taught to think critically, logically, and rationally.  They are taught to love their neighbors as themselves, to love their enemies, to respect authority and one another, and to serve others before themselves.   What makes this education so effective is the teachers that work side-by-side with parents, modeling consistent expectations as we prepare children for adulthood.

Yes.  In the spring of 2009, Heritage Christian School concluded a three year, rigorous accreditation pursuit through Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).    Heritage is not accredited by the State of Iowa.

Each year, Heritage Christian School students graduate into West High, Clear Creek Amana High School, or City High.  No matter where they go, our students have been highly successful.  Academically, students rise to the top of their classes, having been well prepared through their time at Heritage.  Due to the emphasis that is placed on the spiritual development of our students, they are quickly recognized as being different – more respectful, better behaved, more responsible.

Yes.  All classroom teachers must be certified to teach by the State of Iowa and are responsible to maintain that certification.

Yes.  Each year, in October, 3rd-8th grade students take ITBS tests.  The testing is done each morning from the start of the day through about 11:00 AM, Monday through Thursday.   Each year, our students score exceptionally well, often above the 95th percentile. 

At Heritage, starting in pre-kindergarten, our students are exposed to the fine arts and physical education classes.  This not only broadens their exposure to different disciplines, it also provides them time to interact with other dedicated teachers who are eager to share their passion for their subject matter with the children.  Heritage offers Art Appreciation, Music Appreciation, Heritage Singers (2nd-8th grade choir), Heritage Band (5th-8th grade), Physical Education classes, Athletics (5th-8th grades).  For those students who are naturally gifted athletically, and whose parents want more opportunities for them, there is the freedom to dual enroll in the public school system to participate in football, volleyball, and basketball.

Yes.  Students may be dropped off as early as 7:00 AM and may stay as late as 5:30 PM.  For pre-kindergarten classes that end at 1:30 PM, there is an opportunity for students to stay in the classroom until 3:25 PM, then transition into the Before and After School Program.

At Heritage, we love having parents in the building.  We have a Volunteers’ Club which is a group of dedicated parents who accept the responsibility of organizing volunteer opportunities, executing auxiliary fundraisers for specific projects, and assisting in some of the major events that take place at school each year.  We have parents who help serve hot lunch, parents who oversee the library, parents who help with mailings and office work, parents who listen to Bible verses on Friday…the list goes on.  There are many things Heritage would not have if it were not for the sacrifice of time by many parents.

Beginning March 22, 2011, Heritage began to open enroll students and classes are filling on a first-come-first serve-basis.  Interested families may contact the school at 319-626-4777 to receive a packet of information and to inquire about space availability.  To ensure an environment conducive to excellence, classrooms will be capped at 20 students unless currently enrolled students cause that limit to be raised, at which point the classes will be closed.  Waiting lists will be started for classrooms with enrollment higher than 20 and additional grade level classes may be opened when enrollment for a class reaches 24.

Yes.  For the past 6 years, Heritage has used Preferred Food Service in Coralville, IA, to cater hot lunches for students.  Menus are created a month in advance, sent home for parents to select days/meals, and then send the order form back to the school office with a check written for the predetermined amount.  On any given day, approximately ½ of the students at Heritage order hot lunch.

For kindergarten through 8th grade, the school day starts at 8:25 AM and ends at 3:10 PM, Monday through Friday.  For Pre-kindergarten, the school day begins at 8:30 AM and ends at 1:30 PM.
